In the late 70's I spent two full nights with Dexter and his trio in San Juan, P.R. For years afterwards I couldn't seriously listen to another tenor saxophonist. LTD, the greatest story teller of them all.

Dex is one of my favorites. A major influence and force in music. To learn the language of bebop and jazz, one only needs to look to Dexter. A great inspiration.

I still remember with great admiration Mr. Gordon visiting and playing at the Left Bank Jazz Society in Baltimore many years ago and his memorable comments pertaining to Louis Armstrong. Smiling and making merriment("One Flight Up"were all the better while listening to the music of Dexter Gordon, and so he helped many Baltimoreans keep the faith in humankind with his pulsating jump for joy music.

If jazz is the poetry of music, then Dexter Gordon is our "Poet Laureate"!

Hello from Greece! I would like to pose my personal commments for one of my greatest tenorists I have ever heard! He stays on top of my top-5 jazz players...I have records from his first bop period, as well as "Flight Up", "Go, Dexter, Go!" and ths 2-CD Hoce-Coming. Long live Dexter!
