It is great and heartening to see a website in tribute to my musical father of the Tenor Saxophone Mr. Dexter Keith Gordon. As a Jazz Tenor Saxophonist myself, Dexter has been an influecnce on me since my high school days in New York City. I was very fortunate to meet him in New York City in June 1987 when he did his last public performance w/ the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. With a Website like this Dexter still lives!!! Thank you Dexter!!!

Dexter's music stands the test of time. I never tire of sessions like "A Swingin' Affair"; the rhythm section with Messrs. Clark, Warren, and Higgins is among my favorites. In early 1980, I finally heard Dexter at the now-defunct Keystone Korner at 760 Vallejo St. in San Francisco. The group included Sonny Stitt, Ernie Andrews, Kirk Lightsey, Lou Levy, Buster Williams, and Billy Higgins. Red Garland had also been scheduled, but was unable to attend. I'm not sure if Todd Barkan, Keystone's manager, was taping that night. In any event, the group with Mr. Lightsey was most excellent.

Best,

James Armstrong
