I first came to Dex through the Round Midnight movie when I was 15...........Im now 25 and still inlove with the man's music, and a huge influence on me as far as tenor sax playing goes. A true legend, and one still sadly missed. Dex, we love ya big guy! Added: October 6, 2008 X |

I wish i could go back in time (and be born a few decades earlier... ), so that I could be able to see a live performance by Dexter Gordon. A brillant musician. Apart from Ella Fitzgerald, definately one of my favourites. Great site, by the way! Added: September 1, 2008 X |

Heard my first Dexter Gordon recording in 1973 on the local jazz radio station in Los Angeles while I was in college. Of course that recording was "Tanya"......and I've been hooked on Dex ever since then. I believe that I have collected just about every thing that he has recorded as a leader that is currently available. Of course I also have the iconic photo of him at the Royal Roost in 1948 in a beautiful frame in my home. Added: August 30, 2008 X |

Dexter was the man. He was a great player, a great spirit, and one of the most powerful horn players in the history of jazz. His style was soooo funky. He loved to lay back, to embrace the beat and to not rush it. His horn style was based on the blues, and as such he was one of the kings of saxophone. Dexter had a very warm, and romantic view of music. He loved to mix humour, and wit into tunes. The best part of his playing was his very slow, and deliciously touching melodic twist. And he loved to play...it was his ultimate revenge on a heartless world....... Added: August 8, 2008 X |
