Just one more tenor player who has, more or less, given his life to try and achieve the same thing that Dexter achieved. What a great master he was! I got to see him live at the Keystone Korner in San Francisco in the 70's and , man, what a show! He will live on! Added: May 7, 2008 X |

I saw Round Midnight for the first time yesterday and I was mesmerized by Mr. Gordon. Once I heard 'Dale Turner' play I had to find out more about that musician. I am not a big jazz fan, but I really like Dexter Gordon. Added: April 23, 2008 X |

I met Dexter at Walter Booker's studio. Before I could see him Booker warned me: "Look here, Ion,here in NYC even Joe Henderson calls him "Uncle Dexter..." He was just like Dale Turner in the movie... He had some acting experience, he worked at a play called "The Connection" with the Living Theater. He was a different sounding player. Dexter kills me! Dexter played in Uppsala, Sweden in October of 1964. During the intermission the drummer Jan Carlsson started to sing the brand new Beatles tune "All My Loving" Close Your Eyes and I Kiss You, Tomorrow I Miss You...... and right there he was interrupted by the young and cocky local hip?? arranger. Turning to Dexter he asked what Dexter thought of The Beatles. Dex: They Swings!! The Besserwisser:I think it's s***. Dex: Oh Yezz, It's very Good s*** indeed !! Everybody laughed very hard and the room suddenly wasn't that boring anymore. Whatever comes up, Dexter Gordon is still gonna be there forever. Nils Added: March 21, 2008 X |

Hi Dex, I am a big fan of you. You have just a great sound. I am learning to play alto sax, and I think to switch to tenor when I master the technich. What do you seek to pass when you playing? Cheers, Eduardo. Added: March 19, 2008 X |
