Dexter, thank you for being who you were. The notes you played, the ones you didn't and your amazing smile inspired me to buy a used tenor sax a few weeks ago. I put my alto down 30 years ago for a guitar. I'm having great time. I think of you when I play. All the love.

Happy Birthday to the one and only. I will be eternally grateful for what Dexter gave me and millions of other and continues to give all of us. Just the best. No one will ever compare. Like to think he's still swinging and enjoying all the great company he now has!

I met Dexter in Mexico City in the 70's as label exec for CBS Records at that time, I have always been a fan of his work, I also met and toured Woody Shaw during that same period.

February 27th 2008. Today is the day
when the greatest son of America was
born in 1923. The man of incomparable
integrity and the outer-wordly ability
to raise the mood of everyone present
and leave a lasting impression without
equal. A very few people has been blessed
with such prominent quality. Dexter Gordon
-The divine messenger of human excellence.
Even Rostropvich said you spoke very well.
Your still very much with us.
Happy Birthday my immortal friend !! !!!
With the deepest respect, Nils Edström.

Thanks for creating a cool site! Dexter is a mighty jazz tenor titan. His muscular tone, creativity, sense of swing, superb technique and good humor can be found in all his recordings. I wish i could've seen him perform. His verbal banter and song announcements from his live Danish radio recordings bring a smile to my face. He truly was the epitome of jazz cool (Miles can't touch him). Keep up the good work.

Dear friend
I can't thank you enough for the complete school of truthfulness and magic you brought to me. Words can't express it. I still read with tears in my eyes
your ending of your marvellous letters: "Your friend
in Copenhagen". Hope I' going to deserve of being worthy of those words one day. I've finished the
work of my life and I called it BUDEX after you and
Mr. Powell. The visual musical bible of Dexter Gordon. My company is named "Smashing Appearance".
All with you in mind. Even the greatest envy your
wide open talents in different areas.
Dexter's millions of fans will celebrate his birth-
day in the 27th of feb. The solid herald of
attentioncatchers will be 85 !!! Bless his
true friends. Warmly, Nils Edström
